INDOLOGY

Dr. R. S. Nandakumār has now taken up a prestigious and ambitious project titled ‘Udakṣaram’, with the tagline “एकस्य मातृकस्य नेत्रपूर्ण (An Eyeful of the Matrix).”

Project Udakṣaram

एकस्य मातृकस्य नेत्रपूर्ण

(An Eyeful of the Matrix)

Udakṣaram

This initiative is a unique contribution to the fields of Indian Musicology and Indology. He is ably assisted by Dr. Guido Zanderigo (Hamsaa.it, Italy) and Śrī Vijay Sārathy (India) in realizing this vision.

Nandakumār has inherited a rich repository of handwritten Indian musicological manuscripts, passed down through generations in his family. He is currently engaged in preserving, studying, and categorizing these rare texts with the aim of sharing them with contemporary scholars and researchers.

The project involves developing a dedicated OCR platform, an innovative system designed to scan, extract fonts, and preserve ancient handwritten manuscripts—especially those related to Indian Music and Dance. This work is carried out with the help of his disciples and a growing network of collaborators.

What is Indology?

Indology is the expansive and multidisciplinary study of the inherent values, literature, and knowledge systems that Bhārata (India) has gifted to itself and to the world. It encompasses diverse domains including:

  • Vēda

  • Vēdāṅga

  • Jyōtiṣa (Astronomy & Astrology)

  • Saṅgīta (Music)

  • Śāstra (Philosophy & Treatises)

  • Purāṇa

  • Āgama, and many more.

Throughout his academic and musical journey, Nandakumār has consistently engaged with these realms of knowledge, particularly through his mainstream studies of Indian Musicological Textual Treatises.
